Dave's new band TV Freaks played a killer TO show with Pissed Jeans and Anagram this weekend. They just put out an LP on Schizophrenic and you can check em out HERE.

The LP is fresh off the mastering table of Alan Douches and still heading for an April release. It's gonna be a cool year of tours from spring through winter, we'll let all the cats out of all the bags once we have it all confirmed.

Go see Fucked Up's Xmas Benefit Show at the Great Hall with SLOAN, and then come by on us at the Garrison with the above bands. It's a benefit for the Counterfit Harm Reduction Program (a local community street outreach and harm reduction program) and the Barriere Lake Legal Defense Fund (supporting the Algonquin Indians of Barriere Lake in their costly legal battle against the Canadian Government to uphold, enforce and protect their Ontario/Quebec land rights signed into law in 1992 in the Trilateral Agreement). Click either of the above links for more information on either. We'll be playing a pile of the new songs from the upcoming LP and selective old ones too.

Dear Friend - I'm overhauling everything about this blog, since it's our primary site and at this point it's full of old and repeated information. There's now a list of all past shows (HERE), and the songs section is updated with most of the new LP songs (HERE). Here's everything to know for the next while:

NEW LP & WINTER PLANS

We're just a few days away from heading to Boston to record the new LP with Kurt Ballou at God City. We signed to Southern Lord (Sunn, Boris, Earth, COC...) and that rules, and the LP is coming out in spring 2012. Until then there may be some shows here and there, and I'll post them if so, but we're mostly laying low and planning out next year so we can tour everywhere when the LP is out and about (there's already some mind-blowing propositions going around). We aim to get back to both coast of Canada and the US, back to the UK and Europe, and hopefully some newer and further territory too.

Meantime, you can still get the SFBL LP, Don't Ever Change EP and Demo 7" from Deranged. You can get the Coliseum/BL split LP from TeePee and Sound Study respectively. If you're in Europe you can still get the SFBL (Black Version) LP from Reflections, and in the UK you can still get the BL 7" and merch from Thirty Days of Night. Starting general, how’s the band treating you as of this second?

Great. The shows we've been playing have been awesome, nothing terrible has happened this year. I could get used to it.

You're working on a new album, right? Can you tell me any details? How will it build off/differ from the first LP?

It's getting louder, rougher sounding and there are points both slower and faster than any BL material yet. We're recording it with Kurt Ballou at God City in Salem MA, and we're excited to see what he does with it. Ideally, it'll be simultaneously sharp, loose and low in the ways we want it to be, and abrasive at the same time. He's known for a lot of metallic hardcore but has done some great records like Disfear, Nails, Doomriders, that are noisy as hell and not too polished, so we'll see how it all comes together.

I saw you mentioned on your blog that you'll be going on hiatus to record. Will this Silver Dollar show be the last for a while?

We came back from the US tour with Converge and cleared off all tour plans from summer until after the recording to be able to write and focus on it. Then we squandered our lead and now we're down to the wire and cranking out jams under great amounts of art-stress. There won't be many shows until the spring, so that we can go out and do it all properly when the LP comes out. Basically we're going to start saving up now to lose our shirts all next year.

I've seen you say that you wanted to purposely do something different with Burning Love than you did with Cursed. Did that bug your more "purist" punk fans? Is that starting to dissipate now that you've been doing Burning Love for a while and you're onto the next record?

That happened more at the beginning, and still does when we go to some places for the first time. Four plus years in, we have our own history with people and places now, we go back to places we've been through a bunch of times already. But it's almost always true that peoples' nostalgia for old projects hits after the fact rather than in the moment. It doesn't bother me, I'm glad any music I make connects with people at all. But the context is always staggered retroactively. Most bands have a set natural life span, after which you're just stringing it out, trying either to outdo yourself or trying too hard not to deviate from your own thing. Cursed got more mileage in 8 years than we ever expected, and more than was even healthy for us as people by the end. We started Burning Love during Cursed, and it was intended to be a different animal entirely. And Burning Love is 4 out of 5 other people that have their own histories in music. You mix and match your frames of reference and get what you get. People can take it or leave it, or talk about it in ten years, or take it for what it is right now in real time.

Burning Love seems to have some slightly more (for lack of a better word) mainstream influences than your previous bands. Do you see BL as a band with crossover potential, similar to what Fucked Up has managed to do?

It's funny. It's more tuneful and I guess "accessible" for sure. Compared to the really misanthropic shit, BL seems like pop music. But to most people from that world, it's really still hardcore punk.

Damn, we get that Fucked Up thing a lot. I've played with and known all those guys since they were younger hardcore kids. Fucked Up has worked really hard and overcome a lot of their own baggage to get to where they're at, created a really unique thing and left a distinct mark, and I'm proud of them for it. But it's apples and oranges from them to us. We're way less functional than that, and we don't have any elaborate designs on world domination. Having a solid label, challenging ourselves, being able to keep traveling and seeing friends all over, connecting with people anywhere and personally, stringing out my punk adolescence by an extra 2 decades - that's success for me. It's already been a surreal trip. So from here, I'd rather be able to consistently play clubs and DIY spots than "blow up". Maybe they'll be different rooms or fuller ones, but bigness itself isn't a goal for us, and doesn't really mean anything tangible. It's only useful in that it allows you to do this more with less financial stress. Your life is still one van or another, one label, one sound check, one practice space, one motel room or friend's floor, or another. Whatever happens, I wouldn't want to change the way we do it.

I've noticed the band slide onto some bills that aren't entirely hardcore. What's it like playing for a different audience? I saw you play at Tim Mcready's BBQ during NXNE and you seemed to be actively contending with the crowd, snatching people's phones when they texted, singing in people's faces, etc. Does it bug you to play for an audience that isn't 100% engaged?

We love playing shows like that, we had a blast that night. In terms of fucking with people, it's more like I like to force the engagement. I'm a fairly nervous person socially, and as much as playing this music is my remedy for that, I really hate the feeling of being on the spot "up there". I'm used to tight, dark, chaotic rooms where you're on the floor or basically sunken in to the room, so outside of that element it's natural to want to fuck with the comfort barrier between spectacle and spectator, regardless of the size or situation of the show. If I feel like a Musician Competently Performing His Numbers, I'll be out the back door in the alley or screaming at someone trying to go to the bathroom (if the mic cord goes that far) before I can stop myself. It just makes for easy targets that 7/10 people in any room in 2011 are going to be looking down at a phone at any given moment. Basically, if I'm going to feel awkward, you're fucking going there with me.

I've read you say that's partially what Miserable Sound is about.

Miserable Sound is pretty much about that, yeah. The trouble people go to socially to exude this painstaking passiveness, especially younger kids growing up post-internet and American Apparel values, where everything is played very safe and you seldom stick your neck out in any way that matters or reveal any part of yourself that isn't suave or presentable.

How'd you hook up with Southern Lord?

Greg contacted us and then came out last time we were in Los Angeles, and Southern Lord was a great option. I didn't know where we were heading label-wise, I just wanted it to be a label I actually own and listen to records by. Greg puts his all into his label, and is a nerd for the music he makes and releases. We talked on the phone for two hours mostly about Alice Coltrane, and it was on.

...no, like, that's what it's called. We're currently writing the 2nd LP, which we record in November with Kurt at God City in Salem MA. It's gonna be our first LP with Southern Lord and we're stoked about that. So we're not playing too much this fall or winter, but it's all in favor of getting this LP out in the spring and doing the fuck out of it by summer, seeing all our favorite and familiar faces and places out there.

NOT DEAD YET

...no no dude, that's the name of the fest, here in Toronto, that we're playing on October 20th, with fucking Double Negative, Young Lions and a ton(ne) more. Look at this insane lineup and come from wherever you live to this disgusting weekend, many are and tickets are going fast.

We're playing this Saturday in Detroit, the last thing of the last night of A FEST that runs for 4 days. We have to reassess our further summer tour plans in light of our van situation. She made it home but is now truly 1.8 feet in the grave. There are some shows with Harvey Milk closer to home that we're still going to try and make, but the west coast may have to be postponed until we have a solid ride. And on the home front, beyond the BBQ tomorrow, the pre-Vazaleen show for Will Munro is still on with Kommando, Spitfist +2 @ Wrongbar, and the Mississauga Fest show is still good too. We had another round of van problems in yesterday, moments after leaving the loving arms of our friends in Greensboro NC. One tow truck, our last shred of sanity and a few sun-baked hours later in the middle of nowhere (yet I somehow still managed to walk down the highway and come back with some Red Foxx party records, a Thin Lizzy 8track and a pair of antlers) the result was a guy hacking off our (5 day old) catalytic converter, welding a straight random pipe in its place and telling us "if you run straight for it you MIGHT make it another 1000 miles on this." We were only a few hours from Va Beach but it was rolling the dice either way (wherever it died, we would be leaving it for good and having to get all our shit home) so we took a vote on playing/not playing the rest of the shows and ended up driving all the way back from VA to TO (not recommended), belching smoke, and it did indeed die right in my driveway in Toronto.

It's not even about good or bad luck, we're just some dummies who bought the wrong van. It is possessed by playful, malevolent goblins. You fix one thing, something else falls apart. We're scrapping it or giving it to a homeless guy. So our apologies about having to miss Va Beach, DC, Brooklyn and Kingston. We have to reassess our west coast plans, or any out of town shows, until we have a line on another vehicle that isn't an epic gaylord. I am pulling for a 1987 Chevy Suburban myself.

Thanks to everyone that came out to this tour. Every night was killer. Thanks to Converge for bringing us out and Trap Them for being amazing and looking out for us. Van shit aside, it was probably the best tour we've done yet, and we got to see all our fave people and bands, and friends new and old everywhere we went. Like I said, stay tuned about west coast and other plans, as it stands we got no wheels. But the Chicago and LA shows with All Pigs Must Die in a few weeks are still on. I'll post all that momentarily, as well as more info on our Coliseum split LP, the upcoming Fight Amp split, and more news. And big ups to Nate Newton. You're a trooper, hope you're back in action and feeling better, brother.

Winter & Spring 2011

Wow. The nostalgia circuit is in fuckin overdrive but finally in a good way. All the obvious retro cash-ins have run their course and it's given way to another wave of the few real credible bands playing real hardcore shows for better reasons. I kind of can't believe we're playing with Crass, Unbroken and Citizen's Arrest all within one month, but then I can't think of 3 bands that have meant much more to me, as different as their scenes and eras were, so I'm not complaining.

Here's everything we have coming up. Thanks everyone that's written for your support. As I said, we're really far in the hole from the events of last year, so we won't be doing as much this year, but we're definitely still going to do (shorter runs of) both east and west coasts once, and a lot of weekends/fests in between. Meantime we're writing some new songs for another EP, and putting out a live split LP with Coliseum. There's still a lot to say and people to thank in regards to Europe. Despite the weather and a few setbacks, the tour was a great experience and again, Mike Persil is a champ. If anyone's looking for the European version of the SFBL LP (/500, alternate cover), you can get what's left of them from Reflections. As for 2011, it was such a blast but holy hell are we broke as fuck. Unless we find a bag of solid gold bars somewhere, 2011 is looking like it's not going to be as tour heavy as last year, but we're making our plans. ...Lots of good things are happening too, so many good things - the bad things just make better blog posts. It actually was just a little one, and could have been a lot worse. My jacket, Mike's bass. A bunch of food, Easton socks and underwear (his luggage is AWOL since the flight here). Oh, and Dave's bass and gear. But we're safe and sound, well fed and already sorted for the stolen gear. Prague, I still love you. We're a week into Europe tour. Mike Persil is a fucking champ and every single night has been amazing. Gonna kick out a proper tour journal when it's all over, just wanted to let everyone know we're fine.

We've got some shows lined up in March and April that are really exciting news. 2 of them I can't announce until it's official and the other one is official - we're playing with Unbroken in NYC on April 9th, at Santos Party House. Word on the street is it's sold out, but apparently it's not yet, so get in there before it really is. This will be a very special night for a lot of reasons.

To Mike, and all the old friends and new ones out here on the road, all the squats and kids - thank you. It's only a week in and it's already so memorable. A few revisions for the next few weeks: The Durham (UK) show has been moved to the Fishtank and the show on Saturday Dec 18th in Gemert (NL) is now at the Bunker. Cool? Cool. Take it easy amigos.

Thanks so much to everyone that helped us out in the last tour, it was a lot of ground to cover in less than 2 weeks, but it ruled. To everyone out east in Canada, we're going to be back soon as we can, hopefully for a full run to NFLD and back in the spring/summer. Thanks to Chris B and 538 Johnston in NYC. We met the boys from Torch Runner and Low Sky that night and ended up spending a few of the best tour days I've ever had with them in NC. It's crazy to be swinging off a rope swing in a swimming hole one day and coming home to minus zero Canadian cold just hours later. But thanks so much to Zac, Rob and the whole crew out there. You guy rip, and are great cooks. And Henry, RJ and everyone in DC for making it such a good time. I wish every show was at a vegan soul food joint.

The Fest ruled, Torche killed it, it was too bad we had to keep moving towards Birmingham Saturday and back home for Sunday night. So much good food and good times packed into one weekend. Thanks to Rick Smith and all No Idea nerds. And to Jason & Kevin in Birmingham. The Toronto Halloween show was fun as hell. We were bank robbers. The Sadies were the Mummies, and Fucked Up was 1993. Thanks FU and Pesci. And everyone in Buffalo at the house show the next day. We'll also be back there soon as we can.

Europe approacheth, next week. See below for final list of shows. There will be a limited European version of the LP with the alternate "black" cover, and all kinds of shirts and crap like that. After Europe we're taking a few months to chill out, work real jobs and write some new songs. In Mar/April we'll be playing SXSW and shows on the way there and back, and 2 more east coast US shows with Nails which will be formally announced soon.

For now the only home game on the horizon is the New Years Eve release for the City Limits LP comp, at Rancho Relaxo in Toronto with Mad Men, Molested Youth, School Jerks plus many many more. It's been years since there was a proper HC New Years in Toronto, so come down for this if you like to get your head blown off. It's gonna get sloppy.

It's funny, the internet. You pour out your heart and soul, your deepest fears and desires and don't really know who it gets out to. Kiss It Better

So many people helped us out in the wake of the robbery. Our solid gold bros in Coliseum lent us cabs and hooked us up with First Act Guitars (Coliseum, HOF, Mastodon...) who gave us 3 custom axes so we could keep going. With people having your back like that, it's hard to be existential bitches about your luck. That shit just happens, and you can only be so vigilant. I stand by my love for Philadelphia, but to any bands going through there, it was said to us many times (after the fact) that it's happened a lot there lately, specifically at hotels, and it looks like some kind of ring involving the people who work at the hotels. So a word to the wise, maybe drive 20 minutes out of town to be safe.

All that aside, the East Coast half of the tour was a blast. Got to reconnect with old friends and met a pile of new ones along the way, and played some great rooms with awesome bands (Eddy Current, Kim Phuc, Fight Amp, Disappearer, Mammoth Grinder, so many more...there's almost too many people and good times to list). But some highlights: Rick from Torche took us to Bob's River Place south of Gainesville. When passing through Florida, dear god in heaven, go there. We ate a lot of burritos. Slept in an Airstream. Got a crash course in Savannah while stranded for an extra day with a broken axle and played an amazing house show on 6 hours notice (and we're definitely coming back to hang and bang in October), took out 2 mirrors (mine was just a crappy NYC work truck, but Pat's was a Benz in Boston, so he wins) and a bumper (our own), and shot both our front axels (Sorry Spartanburg/Sorry Dayton).

RIP Friendship Cove 2005-2010. Another amazing DIY space bites the dust. The MTL show was shut down by Montreal police and after 5 years, it looks like our set was the last hurrah for the Cove (and yes - we're aware the same thing just happened with our Cinecycle show and when Cursed played the Black Dot. Don't rub it in, dicks). Luckily at least the boys from Hardtimes got it on tape, as well as a new interview (thanks, boys):

The Toronto show at Parts & Labor (best spot, congrats all around) was the best Toronto show yet, and being surrounded by friends and home for a day was so well-needed. As always, Ivy took some great pictures of the whole night. So many thanks to Coliseum and their man Jason. Part Two of the tour (West Coast) starts in a month (Aug.25-Sept 28). Dates will be up here in the next week. We'll be playing Ann Arbor on the way there and a bunch of shows on the way back from Louisville, including some more Kim Phuc action and a Vermont show with NAILS (so stoked. My favorite LP of 2010).

We're playing in Hamilton (This Ain't Hollywood) and Toronto (Horseshoe Tavern) with C'mon in early October, then touring with C'mon from here to eastern Canada on the way to Halifax Pop Explosion on Oct.22nd, then heading down the US east coast (including shows with Doomriders, Fight Amp and others) on the way to The Fest in Gainesville (and without a doubt, many alligator infested hours at Bob's River Place) and back home.

DESTROYER OF WORLDS

Destroyer of Worlds is about a repentant inventor trying to retract his own out of control creation too late, a hypothetical narrative based on J. Robert Oppenheimer as he looked upon the beauty and horror of the first detonation of the hydrogen bomb (date place), which he created. He said of it later "We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, he takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds'. I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." Oppenheimer was later blacklisted from the military and science community for trying to retract and oppose the bomb.

MEMENTO MORI

This is about the detrimental effects of apathetic consumerism on the arts, particularly in modern film, and how a majority contently eating up whatever is being put in front of them makes for lazy, minimum effort remake/rehash culture with no point but to strike whatever nerve is left in their overstimulated audience. Demanding more from art than an industry of rehashed, self-referential pop culture and lazy nostalgia trips. If you don't demand any more from culture, you can't expect much more than a world of dead nerve endings, lowest common denominators and broken references severed from any meaning or purpose.

CURSE BREAKER

Curse Breaker is about the anthropomorphizing of disaster and self-pitying superstitions becoming just as dogmatic as religion. Making or breaking, glorifying or rejecting the all-too poetic idea of our own shit luck. Rather than accepting things with grace for what they are (and are not), our invented gods inevitably enter the equation. Something must be either a blessing or a punishment from above or below. This is about the existential cowardice of the deathbed conversion and the copout of looking to the sky for the false consolation of some greater external rationale.

Further reading: Thomas Homer-Dixon - The Upside of Down, an amazing book about the physics of what we consider "disaster", and how everything from major diseases to natural disasters are not only natural but necessary, and when we try to cheat the system and circumvent them, we deny the natural world its equilibrium, creating worse problems down the line.

Basically, the practical and not the social. Maybe I read Orwell way too young, but I looked around for data to back up my inherent paranoias and I found it everywhere. Today it all seems normal, especially to anyone who grew up with the internet already an established thing - to be absent from every present moment, constantly attached to a radiating device, to defer to a touch screen for all decisions and interactions. I read a book in high school that effected me a lot, The Unconscious Civilization by John Ralston Saul, a Canadian humanist philosopher / culture theorist, in which he talked about the impending "canonization of the new information technologies", which I then watched unfold to the letter, albeit in inconspicuous increments. Aside from the issue of the companies who own and trade your information, it's not the modernity or convenience of it that I can't stomach, it's the switch in priorities that finds the quality of your actual reality suffering on account of your virtual one.

This song is about discerning between convenience and dehumanization, and reserving your right to reject that convenience and inclusion/attachment to the world that comes with such strings attached, even if it cuts you off from the majority (in today's case, 99% of everyone you know). I am quite alright with falling behind and out of touch with the endless dead-end narcissism and false persona of that world. If I've learned anything from punk rock, its that it's alright:

NEEDLE INTRO (Instrumental)

At Giant, the studio where we recorded the LP, there was this heating duct through the backyard venting steam from the adjoining building making the most amazing and ominous drone. I kept passing it and being transfixed for 20 minutes at a time by this hypnotic noise. We ran a mic outside in the snow and recorded it, and didn't do anything to it for the track. When in Parkdale in the winter, I'd highly recommend stopping by this one alley if you have 8 hours to kill. And the piano: we were taking a break from the vocals, I was fucking around on this old out of tune piano while Ian went outside to smoke a cigarette. I turned around to see him through the glass making a "keep going" sign, having been recording it for minutes already - just the kind of move that we love him for.

Maybe it was all the hubbub about the old Skullgina shirt, but there's this new design I've been working on, and most of us and everyone we've showed it to (male and female alike) are pretty stoked on it. But there's some hesitation among the ranks, so I'm curious to know what our people think. Oh god, please don't let me be misunderstood.

Hey, so we're coming to Europe and back to the UK this November & December (this is awesome), and I've been asked to explain a shirt graphic from last year. Fair enough, it's a striking image. And striking images must be bad, right?

I don't hate Germany. I really don't. I joke about it only because so very many sour, unpleasant things tend to happen to me always and only there. Complaints, one-sided fights looking for a reciprocating second party, accusations of cannibalism, other isms and all form of roguish banditry, and a disproportionate amount of lefty over-defensiveness tend to emanate from there. (I have a theory about this regarding leftism, national guilt, self-image and a certain world war, but another time). Then the utterly humorless reaction to me even joking about joking about it, only makes it more funny to me - not funny ha-ha but that socially disastrous, Andy Kaufman kind of funny. Painfully awkward. And the whole thing just spirals further into the ground from there. So, for the record, I really do love your cities, your squats, your de-alcoholized beer, the vegan pate that comes out of a tube and makes my shits smell like cat food for two weeks after tour, and the many fine German people that don't make me want to eat my own face.

Now, if you actually want to know what the meaning of this shirt is, please read this:

The shirt, if it helps anyone sleep better tonight, is about Eros and Thanatos, Freud's depiction of the two conflicting human drives: Eros, or the life drive - the drive toward (or reaction against) sex (the instinct towards survival, propagation etc) and Thanatos: the unavoidable and conflicting march towards death which is always in mind at the same time. To say "This Is The End" is to say that we are less complicated than we like to appear, and that this is what most of human life as an animal species has always boiled down to, regardless of how flatteringly we like to dress it up. Or as Motorhead put it just as well as Freud, "The answer to life's mystery is simple and direct: sex and death." That's really all there is to it, it's meant neither in cocky irony nor intentional ignorance. So in the unlikely event that you are asking honestly and will be satisfied by the explanation, there you have it. If there's more to argue, it's between you and anthropology.

If you feel that seeing or supporting a band who flirts with Freudian philosophy compromises your belief system, please feel free to stay home that night. If you're looking for that ignorant, apolitical "American" band to fit your stereotype, please fuck off. If you want to play Judgement at Nuremberg and make someone kiss your ass because you put them on the defensive, please fuck off. If you want help on how to market your liberal arts degree, go here.

To Mike from Persil who's booking our Europe tour, bands, clubs, squats, people that come out and interact and everyone involved in making this happen, thank you. It's a lot of hard work. We're all so stoked to come over there and it's gonna be a great time.

I don't ever mind explaining myself if something I write comes across as ambiguous, and I'm glad to see that people are vigilant and protective about the sentiments that float around their scene. If this is you, I hope the above helped clear it up. But when it turns to pure, unproductive games of attack and defend, as sadly, it usually does, I have no fucking time for it. It's not real dialogue. If this is you, you can think what you've already decided to, I'd prefer not to even hear about it. It just pisses all over the hard work and enthusiasm of the people that bring bands across the world and into your backyard.

Here's to a new year, and an apartment messed up with photo gear just like old times! This is for the cover of our new EP, which is a single from Songs For Burning Lovers called Don't Ever Change. The B-Side, we mighta mentioned, was a slow dance request from some friends in Quebec and LA whose wedding we played over Halloween. It's a Bad Seeds song about evil love called Jack The Ripper. This will be out on Deranged in Feb/March.

...and the domestic version of the demo 7" will be out within a few weeks. Thanks to Barn Burner, Fog of Leprosy, BCBC and everyone at Dees the other night. It was awesome. Burning Love. It's kind of a stupid name, right? You kind of hate it? Okay, fair enough. It's not tough, dark, evil, post-ironic, retro hardcore, or even remotely cynical. You'll have to suck it up until you get to know us better. I think that's fair considering all the terrible band names I've silently endured through the years. Seriously now. From the early 90's reign of 2-syllable compound words through the decade of painfully played out tough guy mosh bands with disproportionately apocalyptic, vaguely Christian drama queen names, let's just call it the Tears From the Bleeding Sky of the Broken Angel Wings From Heaven era. And good fucking riddance. Through to the more recent internet age of timid, text-obsessed kids with throat tattoos and Jennifer Love Hewitt hairdos, singy verses and death metal chorus with vaguely glam-influenced names starring any juxtaposed combination of beauty and murder themes (Lipstick & Cosmetics vs Razors, Poison, Bullets, etc), and that lovable overwrought neo thug-core with Clipse-inspired gambling & drug dealing themes for names...which brings us to the modern age - the Reign of the Plurals. I'd like to formally take this opportunity to offer a creative challenge to the hardcore punk and indie rock community. Please, please stop naming your bands after plural nouns. It's getting a bit much. It's definitely a step up from those godawful indie sentence fragment names but the plurals, they are almost entirely exhausted, and may soon be hunted into extinction. How about a nice verb-noun combo, like The Running? In any case, I just wanted to put that out there because we gotta get away from bills that look like this:

URGENT - Tonight in Quebec City moved to a bar, 310 Rue De la Couronne (8PM). And yes, we are still playing Catacombes tomorrow. And we'll have a new batch of tapes for both.

We've been in Montreal since Sunday. Our van Crystal took a shit and died outside Ottawa almost a week ago now, after the angry spirit of a bird we killed started roaming somewhere under the hood. Friends helped us get from there to the Sherbrooke and Friendship Cove shows, and we cut our losses, stayed here and wrote songs all week so as to rejoin forces with Vicious Cycle tonight and tomorrow. Sorry to everyone further east about those few shows we missed. Acts of God, you know? In a related story, we'll be playing a shit-ton of shows coming up to try and make back the epic van repair bill, so stay tuned for the whole list and details.

EPILOGUE - Would you even believe me if I told you it got a lot more complicated after that? Doesn't matter. These things are trifles. We got to QC and it fucking ruled. We are currently in the loving arms of Dan Omegas and JTA, eating probably the best burritos ever invented. But Crystal may be dead. And you know, good riddance.
